Yeah...... OLMEC is the best

Yeah..... I can't log in to blog for long time because there are problems with username and blogspot release its new beta version. Finally I can write something in my blog.

On Monday, the result for Treasure Hunt is announced and luckly our group OLMEC win and we get RM100 voucher from Isetan. Again, thank you PETROSAINS especially Ms. Rita who get it for us. After that we prepare for the mini shows and busking.

On Tuesday, we have another trip. This time, we went to Planetarium, Putrajaya, Wetland and the last one is Chocolate Shop. At Planetarium we watch a movie about Hawaiian Island which is projected at very large screen. It looks like we experience the real journey not just watching. There is a room which we could feel like we are in the space. I enjoyed playing inside it with Fajar, Dew and Awa. At putrajaya, we catch lots or might be hundreds of pictures since our journey in PETROSAINS will end soon. At Chocolate Shop, there are many kind of chocolate even with a Durian taste. We bought some of them as souvenier for us to UTP.

On Wednesday, we practice the mini shows by showing it to the judges. The judges comment on our minishow and give us advice how to improve our mini shows. Picture at the left is Hamid, Rejep, Dieu and me who are ready to show our mini shows to the public. This is OLMEC mini shows. Actually another person is missing which is Reza. He doing busking to the people around Downstream. Today, we have really great experiences by practicing Science Communication and deliver it to the public. Last 2 weeks we have several talks, workshops, discussion and observation. Finally we apply what we have learned and deliver it to the public.

Sciences Communication Program will end tomorrow. It is a really good Program for us especially in communication skill and deal with peoples. I really enjoy this program with helps of organizers, facilitators and volunteers. Hopefully PETROSAINS will do the same program for the other students in the future.

Go Go OLMEC....... OLMEC is the best

On Friday, we have kind of workshop to create mini show. We have several things such as Paper Cup, Bottle, Balloons, Ping Pong Ball, Bottle, Stick and others. My group comes with several things which are Refraction, Air Resistance, Bernoulli Principle and sounds. Others group also create lots of fresh ideas about mini shows. It gives us memory back to explore new things when we are young.

Before the break, we had small bye2 ceremony for Jamie. He is going back to his country to celebrate Merry Christmas. Bye Bye Jamie, nice has fun in science with u even for a short period of time. Actually when I enter university, I have no more feeling to explore things because it looks complicated. However, through the SciCom Program I get back my sense to explore and ask things until I fully understand it. Thank you to everybody again.

During the evening, we have Treasure Hunt around Petrosains and Ain is in our group. It is really fun to find and think the answer. Without this Treasure Hunt, I don’t thnk I will read those things in Petrosains, nice activity 2 make us read all the Info. Even though we didn't know the result yet, but we have fun and satisfy with our efforts. GO OLMEC. Weapon & MORE observations

On Thursday, the 1st talk is about Program Department which is given by Mr Kamarudin Kasim (KK). Here we are playing game about number and clapping the hands. Most important thing is still focus and could response in the short of time.

We also are divided into group of 3 to create a weapon to launch a table tennis ball. My group members are Hu Yen, Amro and me (See pic above, huhu). The winner for the challenge is Fajar, Bagouri and Dew. Things that we learned from this activity is to consider all of factors such as angle, design, creativity and also team work.

The 2nd talk which is sharing experiences by Mr Uzaymee was really great. He show us lots of pictures about Bunga Raya plant when he has vacation (is it ???) there. Huhuhu. we learned lots kind of steps needed, do & dont, different between other plants and others. Overall it is amazing ang give us better picture about the life in the offshore.

After that, we are divided into group and my group name is Olmec which consist of Reza, Hamid, Dieu, Rejep and me. What we need to do is observe and observe. huhu...... We need 2 learn sth b4 we are going 2 do that kind of thng. At the left is OLMEC at one of the mini show.

Soccer Competition, Show & Observation, Time to observe

Today's talk by Carigali is canceled and it is replaced by the Soccer Competition. For today's challenges, there are 6 differents challenges. I'm one of the Eco group which consist of Sameha, Aishah, Rejep, Besher and me. I'm doing Sprint Test and manage to get 2nd place behind Fajar. The result will be announce tomorrow (RM100 hamper, wow).

After that, we have talk given by Mr Sam (his glamorous name) about show & observation. There are 3 types of shows which are Sciences Show, Mini Show and Busking.Each show must have Title, Objective, Instruction, Discussion and Conclusion.

At 3:30, we are able to watch Sciences Show about Bat (See Picture at the top). The show is about Mother Bat and Baby Bat. Bat can smell, hear and watch. Besides that Bat also use echo location especially during night to detect insects or other things.

After that, we have free tour to observe and I have found around 7 mini shows. During this school holiday the show is about sound. Some of the minishows is Resonances, Tube, Local Instruments, Music Box, Water Drop, Coin popping and others. All the mini shows are suitable for any level of visitors and only basic science concepts are used.

At the left is a minishow about resonance that will produced sound when you rub the glass. Hossam demonstrates it to me and the others. (Good job)

Fun of learning~

A picture is better than thousands words. Hihi. Today we went to National Sciences Centre and Astro. We need 2 wake up early in the morning and assemble at 7:45. Wow.

Thanks to Tengku who treat us with chocolate. It is really sweet to start the day with a sweet thing. Our remaining day become sweet and precious memory to remind.

At National Science Centre we learned lot of things. Yeah, there are similarities and differences between National Sciences Centre & Petrosains. The similarities are both make science look easier to understand and the concepts used also are same.

The huge differences are National Sciences Centre have broad focus where they have animal nature, herb aquatics, insects and other sections while the main focus in Petrosains is Oil and Gas. However, there are not enough volunteers like Petrosains, therefore some of the info cant be delivered clearly to the visitors. In Petrosains, the career in Petroleum (mainly) is focused more while in National Science Centre have general objectives.

However, both are fun and have lots of thing to be explore.

Today, Measat III is launched early in the morning at Kazakhtan. Though, we can't watch it, we still learned lot of things from the tour guide, Ms Alia. Hihi. Astro is 1 of the important medium of communication especially in MALAYSIA. They have 3 satellites that help lots in distribution the information. We also are able to go to the X-Fresh studio to know how the process on air is done. Yeah, it is amazing because the DJ could speak both Malay & english fluently and very fast. He is kind of bilanguage person who can switch to speak to other languages. I'm still try to improve my communication skills and my dream is to become multilanguages person. Pratice, practice and practice.

We learned lots today and we will learn more things tomorrow and the following days. Hopefully all those things can bennefit me and the society.

We had joy, we had fun, we had season in the sun

Today we have culture performance by all the participants of Science Communication Program. It is really fun to know other countries culture and their life. Here are the pictures of all of the performers and also some of the staff and the volunteers. We really have fun and enjoy our day (might be because we are released earlier).... hihihi. Everybody seems really tired and they sleep once they arrive to their respective room.

The mummy is great even make Ms Reiza scream, yeah it is really fun. Maybe we will have Jean and Mr Faiz to perform during the graduation day. Hihihi

Communication Talk, Research Talk, Discussion & T-SHIRT

What do we have yesterday? My wires not connected well. Might be because it already connected 2 Time Square. hihi. Yeah, during Communication Talk, we learned about lot of things especially Web 2.0. I just realized that this blog things is designed base on Web 2.0 concepts. No more pedagogy(am I right bout d spelling??) like traditional one with a sequence and bla2.... huhu. Web 2.0 is really interesting which the communication is no longer one way communication or sequence communication. It more likes sharing and people can connect with many of ways.

Below is Sameha, Tihani and Chand. What they are trying to do? Actually they are good in magic, they use Sate Stick and pass trough the balloons without PoP. It really amazing, How they do that? Actually this is a simple busking n they r science concept behind it. They pass trough at the point which less stress. Amazing right????

Hmm. After that we have Research Talk from Daniel. It is really good talk with lot of pictures. However we will have interview with his department. Oh men.... what kind of question will be ask.

During the evening, we have discussion about performance, we got allowance and 2 t-shirt which is very nice. THANK YOU Petrosains with such as wonderful bennefits.

Being at the top

You wanna be on top??? yeah.... we have an opportunity to go to the skybridge. We could see very beautiful scenary from the top. The people at the ground look so small like group of ants working to their nest. It is really fun men. The lift also really fast, 1floor per second. This is my first time go to the skybridge, b4 that i imagined how the lift buttons looks like and my imagination is correct when i see hundreds of buttons stick on the wall. The tour guide also have lots of experiences. When he stop briefing us about the twin tower, the lift door is open. Very sharp ( He has 2 explain everyday n lots of time). This is the picture for the 1st group at the sky bridge. It is really interesting, isn't????

I'm so excited to write about skybridge over the the workshop that we have. The objective of the workshop is to identify 3 different approaches used, where and when they are used. First approach is GUIDED approaches where all the steps are provided and the facilitators are available to help us. This kind of approach is suitable for the beginners who want to learn how to make it. I think it also suitable when we want to analyze something. Beshir n me create a top which spin for 44 seconds. WOW

The 2nd approach (At Station B) is where the requirement is provided and the learners need to construct a top with fulfill the challenge. This approach name is CHALLENGE. This approach gives half of the control to the facilitaors and the other half to the learners. The funny things is I only pass the 1st challenge.

The 3rd approach is OPEN approach ( I forget the name actually). Above is Eziz, Dew and me possing with the top that i constructed. Here we are free, 100% control in learners hand. We can create whateva top we want. Firstly, i'm trying to use to plate together to make it looks like real top. The bad things is hollow didn't help in making the top spin longer. Finally, i cut the top one. But here we are free, we can analyze it, add mass on it, adjust the spindler n choose any materials we have. After all, nobody break ASH record with 3 minutes 50 seconds record.

4th day end with colours when we get half of the allowance. it is great men........

Aquaria..........

Yeah.. we have two talks for the morning session ehich are marketing department and exhibition department. We have learned lots of things such as 3 power, 5 domains and lots of thing. However, aquaria makes my mind flying from the Lavender Room.

Inside tha Aquaria, we could see lots of aquatic animals. This month is a pirate promotion. This is what we have learned in Marketing Department Talk which is about 'Joint Promotion. Pirates of Carriberean is suitable for Aquaria promotion because of lot of deep sea animal. We even can watch the chest inside the aquarium. The most interesting thing is when the staff feed the shark. It is not easily to be seen.

I'm little bit depressed because I could not buy Aquaria Lanyard which is very colourful n great. Tha Lanyard is so great n make them sold out. What a pity on me.

2nd day in SciComm Program

AWESOME. This is the best word that can describe the activities during SciComm program. We learned lots of new things and gather more informations. For the morning activities, we have operation and program talk. During operation talk, we learned how do Worl Class Services is looks like. We also learned about other cultures in welcoming visitors and other things. Each culture has their on way in greeting people and show their respect.

The best phrase in Operation Talk by Mrs Saiful that i like most is we could say ' I don't know'. However, this phrase could not be stand alone because we could not repeat it for many2 times. It should be followed by asking and learning. It is great we could learn from experiences peoples. That is why we need to share and care. It is a choice not a chance. We choose the way, what we wand and what is the bennefits for ourself and the society.

The greatest part for 2nd Day SciComm Project is touring inside Petrosains. Finally we could try all the exhibitions and have fun. However, the time is limited and we will have plenty of time to learn it more. The Section that I like is at the Plant after we ride the helicopter. Somehow, I know better picture what Petroleum Enginer do. This is one of my dream to work there as one of Petroleum Engineer.

1st day in petrosains

04/12/06 - Today is the 1st day for the utp-petrosains communication programme. I really looking towards this program because there are lots of applications and i was very lucky 2 b selected as one of the participants. It is very fortunate to have an oppotunity to meet other peoples from all over the world. Here, i have no choice and i need 2 speak in english and i need 2 improve my communication skill. Besides that, it is really interesting to know others culture. Today i have learnt how to count 1 to 10 in Thailand which is neng, song, sam, see, ha, hok, jed, pad, kow, sib (Fajar told me this). However all of this are side events for this SciCom Program. For todays activity we learn how important communication is. One of the activities is we need 2 build a structure without speaking which is conducted by Mr Daniel Loy. This is the most amazing activity because i have 2 convey my ideas by body language, sketching, make a demonstration or others. We are new 2 each other but yet we need 2 believe in our team mate, working together and have fun. The other interesting thing is the talk by HRM representative who is Pn Adzlina. I was realized that i have set the destiny but i didnt have complete planning towards achieving that. When I enter UTP, i didnt have that kind of spirit 2 acieve big things in my life. i do need to rethink about there more and more. I also have a chat with Mr Rahimi from Carigali Exploration Department and somehow he knows PETRONAS-scholars mind. I think he is correct when he said PETRONAs-scholars did think 2 work with big2 company without considering they heve been sponsored 2 further study. Even in the agreement stated that PETRONAS-scholars can pay back the money but it is not really thankfull if I do that way. Yeah, maybe another company give high salary but money is not everything. We are looking for a peacefull life not only money n money. I need to think wisely n considering all of other factors. The activity conducted by Mr Jammy is about Pendulum Snake and it is really fun, we do science steps in investigating the model and it give lot of answers for the questions, expected n unexpected ans. Hopefully I have that kind of energy to enjoy tomorrow's events which are more99999x interesting. Have a rest for tomorrow's energy. hehe.
